We all live, to a certain degree, in a cycle of sequences. We get up, we do our daily activities, and then we go to bed. However, what goes on during the day varies from person to person because we all live in our own unique world. The way of life is how you see it. Whether you see it from the viewpoint of a construction worker, a business man, a model, or even a zookeeper. But what exactly makes up someone's lifestyle and how would you label it so?
Well, everybody goes through different experiences because of what we like, don't like, desire, lust, fiend, etc. We take every step to fulfill the needs we set for ourselves because we know what we want. For example, a construction worker is somebody who longs for manual labor, the character benefits, the health benefits, or whatever comes with the job. They go to the job site everyday to build upon something within them. Yet, how can this be considered a lifestyle?

Same thing can go for somebody who is the complete opposite, like an accountant. They wake up everyday to sit at a desk and work with numbers and money. What comes from that job could be the intellectual improvement, learning to be organized, and so on and so forth. But those qualities squeeze themselves into their life outside of the job and that is what they become. Those qualities become part of their lifestyle.
So how would you label your lifestyle? What qualities do you gain from doing what you love to do? What kind of sequence do your days consist of? Think about these questions hard because the answers to these questions are the answers to who you are. These answers describe you and what your identity entails. Have fun on your journey!:)
Interesting article. Kinda a sideways take on the psychological argument of nature vs nurture. The question really is do you choose the life style because of who you are or dose the lifestyle itself mold you into who you have become. I Like how you have kinda tilted it though. A nice introspective piece.

That is a very interesting question and my answer is a mixture of both because you always have a sense of who you are and you choose what you want to do with your life. However, once you get going on that path, the lifestyle and what comes with the lifestyle changes you along the way.
DeleteLike if I lived in a rough and tumble neighborhood with the quality of a rough individual but chose to be a botanist, I chose the lifestyle because I don't want to be who I came to be living in that particular neighborhood. Then, living the life of a botanist, I pick up the quality traits of a botanist like serenity and peace and it becomes who I am.
I guess its all up to your perspective in how your life went which would answer that question. But its a very interesting question to think about. Thank you for bringing it up.
This single article has made me think about life in a whole different array. I regrettably have one question for you though. What if one is forced to live in another environment? Take myself for example, I am an automotive mechanic. What if i due to forces i cannot help (like financially) have to move to say Lancaster,P.A., or somewhere else where mechanics aren't in high demand, and i have to change my job to say sales associate at a local mart? Does this change who I am or whom I want to be? Or rather just trying to find a way to survive and make money? would my lifestyle be considered survivalist?
ReplyDeleteOne who merely makes ends meat just to live day by day? paycheck by paycheck?
I feel there is more to life then a simple label through the career you choose. Say I was a botanist, but i loved to work on ten second cars that flew down the 1/4 mile doing speeds over 100. I guess you could say i would be living a double life. Kind of a Superman or Batman.
hmm aha, Ya IM BATMAN!!
That is a very good question and my thought on it is this: If you did have to move to Lancaster, PA to become a sales associate, I feel like you would change some traits about yourself to fit in to the environment and the experiences you encounter from being a sales associate. Does it or will it change your entire sense of self? That is a question which I feel has no concrete answer.
DeleteAnd the one who lives just to make ends meet will take on the characteristics of making ends meet. I don't particularly know what those would be but it could include knowing how to work with a tight budget? Rationing out things to make it last? Anything is possible.
But, I definitely agree that there is more to life than a simple label because everybody's life is different. And that is what makes this topic so interesting because of how we identify ourselves either by experience, innate qualities, forces out of our control, all that jazz.
I definitely appreciate your comment and thoughts BATMAN!:D
No, thank you Kyle ... by the way its Dylan .. just been sick and have been thinking a lot about life
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteMy life style has changed many times due to different forces of nature.I worked factory jobs all my life, so I enjoyed the physical labor aspect in my life style.I mowed my own grass, painted and remodeled my home etc.
I was a single mom who put all my self worth into supporting my family. Now I am disabled. My life style has changed drastically. It took me time to find my new identity and be happy with the life I lead now.As a species we're pretty adaptable. We just need to be willing.
I couldn't agree with you more Debra! We humans are remarkably resilient and are able to change up what we have to be comfortable with what we will have later. And I'm sorry for you becoming disabled. You definitely have true strength to be able to find yourself after something like that. I envy that strength.
Deletemy lifestyle always changed every year___
