Dance Used for Cultural Identity

Good afternoon everybody! Today I finished my research paper for English class and want to give you all a little preview of what I wrote!

Dance is something which is universally seen as a fun activity used to blow off steam, connect with other, or anything else which will satisfy the dancer. However, it has been seen for retaining cultural identity against those who wish to oppress cultures, or assimilate cultural entities.

Here is an exerpt from my paper which will hopefully give you some insight to what dance really means to people:

"However, just like the Native Indians in America, dance has been seen as an important social aspect in the lives of these other cultures for remembering their cultural identity. ”Cultural dances are so precious to many civilizations, as they often contain pieces of their history and livelihood that would otherwise be lost" (Warta Webpage). Therefore, retaining cultural identity by dance is a very powerful tool which is seen around the world to fight against oppressive forces which attempt to assimilate cultural history."

Dance is a very powerful tool and the meaning behind many dances are filled with important context which is hidden to outsiders. So next time you're out watching a cultural dance, think about the true meanings in each motion, each facial expression, and the music behind it.
