Everyday, I hear people speak about what they wish to see change in the world. Whether its about changing something in the local community, changing something about our country, or even changing something about the world. I notice that while they are spilling out what they wish to see change, they aren't taking part in making the change happen.
For example, one may be walking through a town of poverty where people are living on the streets, eating out of trashcans, and begging others for money. In their minds they wonder, "Why doesn't anybody help them out? Why can't we get these homeless off the streets?" Yet, they continue on their way with their lives, placing the homeless into their memory banks as they worry about some other thing. Instead, what this person could do, is take part in volunteering at a homeless shelter. Feeding the needy, donating old clothing, or even sparing some of their time to listen to homeless individual's stories.
Displaying a sign of affection towards them is the change that needed to occur. Taking the active role, the leadership role, and plunging head first into what you wish to see is how change happens. In order to understand the change you want to see, you must first experience that change.
Take Martin Luther King Jr. as an example. Let us look past all the marches and all the speeches he took part in and let us look at what his motivation might have been. He lived in a time of great oppression towards the colored community. He experienced turmoils most of us may never, and hopefully will never get to experience. So what he did, is he took the active role, and became the change he wanted to see in the world. The world was violent, so he acted on non-violent confrontation. The world wanted him silent, so he acted in his speeches and voiced his opinion. The world wanted him give up his dream, but instead, he acted upon his dream and led a movement so powerful it swayed a nation. What Mr. King did was become the change he wished to see. He felt what it felt to be that change and used his experience to lead others into feeling what he felt.
All in all, people follow those who take the leadership role. They wish to see others do what they think they cannot do. So you know what that means? Be their change! Be your change! Be what you want to see and what you want will develop and you will live a very wealthy life.Podcast
