A New Year, A New Cycle, A New You

Good afternoon everyone! It is great to be back into the blogging scene for the New Year! So many accomplishments have occurred within the year 2013 and the year 2014 is going to prove to be even better! Hopefully I will be able to stick with blogging and continually share my thoughts with you guys throughout the year as one of my resolutions. But, what is a New Year’s resolution and what is so special about them?

New Year’s resolutions, as most of you already know, are ideas or goals which we set for ourselves to stick to or accomplish throughout the year. Most people find setting resolutions give them the motivation to be a better person or better some part of themselves which they think is a bad quality, characteristic or whatever. However, others oppose the concept of resolutions because they say that if you wish to change something about yourself you shouldn’t have to wait until a New Year starts. Time keeps going no matter what the number on the calendar says.  If you want to change something do it right there and then.

Personally, I agree with those thoughts. Why should you have to change when a New Year starts and not right there and then? A possible answer can be in regards to measurement.  You start with day one and you go from there. For example when people do thirty day challenges they start on day one of a month. So for New Year’s resolutions they start with day one of the year.  It all depends on the person I suppose. Although, I do stand firm that if you wish to change something about yourself, just do it. Figure out a way to make it happen and follow through with it with all your might.

So now you might be wondering, why do I have resolutions if I hold that belief? Honestly it is because I didn’t have the motivation to change myself right there and then. I let my sorrows and self-loathing get the best of me. But seeing that it is a new year somewhat gave me hope for a new beginning. The cycle has begun anew and I must follow suite with changing myself within my own life cycle.

Now, what are my resolutions for the 2014 cycle? First off, I want to be more assertive. Not just with my attitude but mainly with my decisions. I can be indecisive and I second guess myself. I want to be able to find what will make me happy and go with that decision. I also want to disregard the assumptions of what other people will think of me when I make those decisions. People will judge regardless of the good or bad you commit. So why bother caring what other people will think of you? Lastly, I want to be the best me that I can be. I want to be able to know what makes me unique and distinctive and strong and continually use those strengths to shape, mold, and create me as my life presses on.

Many of us are grown to hearing about being your own person. Do what you want and such and such. Yet, most people which I speak to do not even think about what makes them unique. To be your own person, you must live by your own rules, your own style, and your own sense of life. Most people don’t know what they love, what they love to do or even what they’re good at. I feel like you should always know what you’re strengths are because that is what will lead you through life. That is a resolution which I hope my fellow readers can take a gander at this year.

Here are some questions to get you started:

What makes you awesome? What makes you unique? What is it that you like that the next person does not like? What are you good at? What do you like to do when you’re bored? What do you like to do to put a smile on your face?

These, plus a ton of other questions are essential to finding out the person you are.  I know I might have left the discussion of resolutions but I feel like this is connected. Resolutions are made to better yourself right? So by answering these questions you’re finding out who you are which in turn is bettering your life. Therefore, you can make decisions based on what you like and what you want and not what the world wants. So, these questions are not meant to be a manual but as a guide to help you find out what makes you special. Why and how are you an individual in this world?

I hope all of my readers find this post somewhat helpful as you all enter into this fresh New Year with your hopes and dreams. Always seek Peace, Harmony, and Tranquility. Good luck on your resolutions this year and let me know how everything goes! I would absolutely love to hear everything!

Command Respect, Not Demand It.

At first I was going to write this post about learning how to "not care," or my take on what not caring really means. As I was doing some research I came upon an article which talks about how leaders are good at what they do. Real leaders are able to indirectly command respect from others around them because they possess innate and obtained skills which allow them to stand out amongst the rest and be a positive influence.

Now you may ask, what are these skills leaders possess to hold them in such high esteem? The article written by Christine W. Zust from EmergingLeader.com states the following topics: Walk the Talk,
Influence; Don't Manipulate, Include; Don't Exclude, Participate Equally and Openly, Back up Opinions with Facts, and Get a Real Image.

After reading this article, I re-read it. After re-reading it, what really hit me was the last point: Get a Real Image. Many of us put on different images for different types of people. Some act a certain way at work versus how they act at home or whatever. Having this type of routine only splits up our personality. Sooner or later, these different personalities clash inside of us. It creates a disruption and this disruption shoves people away by our behaviors. I've seen this happen to others and with myself.

In a sense, having that real image does sort of tie in with the no caring attitude. We can't be afraid to be ourselves with whoever we engage with. We can't be fearful of what we might say or do because what we say and do is what makes us who we are. Being who you are all the time is being genuine, unique, and a leader.

So my friends, if you wish to gain respect from your friends and strangers, don't be afraid to be you. Command respect by being the best you you can be and don't care about the thoughts of others. Be your own leader.

Make sure to check out Christine's article in the link above!

Why do I have to be first all the time?

Communication is what has helped us humans adapt and survive to the crazy conditions the world throws at us. From major weather disasters to huge political upsurges, we have been able to push through it all. But I'm not hear to bore you on the basis of such topics. I'm here to speak my mind of the topic of communication between personal friends and acquaintances.

Everybody has close friends and people that they know through their friends who they don't consider as their friends. Those people, we don't necessarily reach out to them. However, when we do, it is usually a pleasant conversation. Although, they never want to reach us back first. Does that mean that we shouldn't want to reach out to them anymore? If they don't want to take the time out to see how you're doing like you did to them, why should they be worth your time?

This has happened to me many many times and still happens today. I reach out to people first all the time. I'm always the one to start a conversation and I take heavy interest in their lives and their well being. Why isn't it the same towards me? Am I uninteresting? Do they think I'm always doing well?

I do put on the attitude that I'm always doing well. I usually have a smile on my face and an upbeat attitude. But underneath, like everyone else, I want to feel appreciated by having people come out to me and see how I'm doing. I don't always want to be the one reaching out first.

Now this isn't a cry for pity and sympathy. I don't want that. I'm more concerned with if I should even reach out to people who don't want to reach out to me in return. I don't have to go out of my way to see how you're doing. I could be worrying about more important things. Just food for thought and seeing how y'all think about reaching out to people who don't reach out to you.

I'm Back Where I Belong

Hey everybody! I know I have been away for awhile and I honestly have no other excuses other than I was too lazy to sit down and write. During that time though, I thought up of so many ideas and thoughts which I wanted to write down so badly but, like I said, the lazy bug stuck with me for weeks. However, fortunately, I'm back into my rhythm. I found again what made me love writing. Why do I love writing? I love writing because it allows me to be who I am without worrying so much about other people's thoughts running through my head. That I think is the true meaning of this post, to find where I belong.

I might have mentioned this in one of my previous posts, but I ran into a roadblock of compromising my identity. Meaning: you know that little voice that runs around in your head, a.k.a your subconscious? Well, most folk say their subconscious voice is their own voice. For a time, the voice which symbolized my subconscious always seemed the be the voice of another person. And this person was never consistent. It was always different.

Then, I started writing. Like magic, my thoughts became clear. I was able to see everything in a new perspective. As if the clouds of my thoughts swimming inside my head were blown away by every tap of the keyboard and every stroke of the pen. It is total bliss. I can easily say that it is a passion. Along with Martial Arts Tricking, I don't think I can go a day without writing anymore. It helps keep me as me and assures me that I don't need to do anything else other than what I normally do to be me and to find my own voice.

Now, what do I want you to learn from my experiences? Find your voice by following your passion(s). Passions are essential because it is what wakes you up in the morning, what gets your feet moving once you're out of bed, and what puts you to sleep at night. But in between those stages, everlasting memories are made. So look deep within yourself, find what makes you a unique individual, and live your life around it! Good luck!

P.S. If you wish to ask me for any kind of advice, I am MORE than welcome to help out! Contact me on Facebook!

The Most Sincerest Apology for my Wrongs

I want to use this post to get things off of my chest. Years ago, some event which I can't remember caused me to seek the life of a shy guy. I figured people (mainly girls) liked the shy guy. I saw other guys, who didn't stand much out in the group, get what I was looking for so I thought, hey, why not try it out.

So for years I've focused on sticking to my thoughts, staying in the background and hopefully receive what I wanted from people by being shy. Also, because I thought I was pretty interesting, I thought other people would find interest in me enough to approach me. Yeah, not really the best decision.

All this decision did was cause endless pain. I held onto the hope of people finding interest in me that it blinded me from finding interest in the people I know now. I constantly kept looking for the next best thing which would make me feel important. It was such a terrible decision. I lost many awesome friends and connections because I thought they didn't deliver what I wanted. But they did. They did plus more and I didn't want to realize it until now.

For all the people who I've done this too, I'm truly truly sorry. You have not done anything wrong to me for I have committed so much wrong to you. I've neglected, I've hurt, I've pushed away the people who did right to me for years.

So for what its worth, I'd like to try my best to fix my wrongs. I wish to connect back with all the people who I've wronged and somehow get back onto the right foot. I wish to be unconditionally grateful for the people that I know and the love they have shown to me because y'all deserve all the love that I can give.

If I have wronged you, please contact me somehow and tell me that I did. Tell me in the realest fashion so I know in my heart that I have something to fix. Thank you for your time in reading this and I hope all of you accept my apology.

How to Focus Your Mind!

Man thinking on a train journey.
Man thinking on a train journey. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
When we set goals for ourselves we tend to sway away from the path we laid out. Maybe Grandma came and told you to bake cookies which led to you looking up recipes written by the Tooth fairy. Life is unexpected. So how do you go about in fixating your mind to only focusing on your one goal?

  1. Let your thoughts pass: We all think about the most random of thoughts when we're focusing on certain objectives. Some of those thoughts get the best of us. However, if you let your thoughts pass like ocean waves, nothing will stop you. Try not to trail your thoughts.
  2. Learn to be mindful: Being mindful is one of the best tactics for living in the now. Since working on your goal is considered being in the "now" state, being mindful will allow you to capture everything as it is and make you less concerned with things which may have nothing to do with what you want.
  3. Relieve stress: Stress is a heavy burden everybody goes through. It throws off your focus, clutters your mind, and leads you to sometimes be less motivated to continue work. So always focus on breathing, taking one step at a time, counting to ten, and so on.
  4. Always find a happy place: When we get caught up in the tensions of life, we sometimes find ourselves in a dark place. In order to get out, find what makes you happy, place your mind in that setting, and go about your life as if everything resides where you are.
Good luck.

Our Ears May Be More Powerful Than Our Eyes

If you have ever taken Psych 101, you'll understand the power of the human being and what makes us completely unique among the other lifeforms on this planet. Here is one story which anybody can take a lesson from.

Do you know who this man is? His name is Daniel Kish. You see his eyes? Well they're not real. Those are his prosthetic eyeballs due his retinas being cut out due to a rare form of cancer called retinoblastoma which he was diagnosed with at birth.

However, the remarkable feat performed by this man on a day to day basis is his ability to live like a regular person, even though completely blind. He's able to navigate through the woods without any aid, bike through very busy streets, and can visualize every little thing around him. How may you ask? The same method bats are able to see at night!

Daniel has completely mastered the art of echolocation using tongue clicks. What he does is click his tongue at certain pitches to create frequencies sensitive enough for him to interpret where they bounce off from. In the article written by Michael Finkel, Michael describes the first meeting he and Daniel had:

“The first thing Daniel Kish does, when I pull up to his tidy gray bungalow in Long Beach, California, is make fun of my driving. “You’re going to leave it that far from the curb?” he asks. He’s standing on his stoop, a good 10 paces from my car. I glance behind me as I walk up to him. I am, indeed, parked about a foot and a half from the curb.”

What is Daniel doing now? He is head of the World Access for the Blind traveling across the world helping those who are sight impaired and guiding them to living a perfectly normal life. To Daniel, he believes that the blind should not be conformed to the norms of a blind person. He firmly sticks to the belief that a blind person can live a regularly normal life along with everyone else. Is this possible? I say it is.

Michael states in his article regarding Daniel's wildlife excursions:

“He climbs trees. He camps out, by himself, deep in the wilderness. He’s lived for weeks at a time in a tiny cabin a two-mile hike from the nearest road. He travels around the globe. He’s a skilled cook, an avid summer, a fluid dance partner. Essentially, though in a way that is unfamiliar to nearly any other human being, Kish can see.”

Getting Stuck and 5 Ways of Finding the Way Out

What I'd like to present today is that anybody of any cliche experience some kind of block one time or the other. However, we don't know how to overcome them.

So what do you do in any situation where you feel as if you cannot press forward with your work? Well there isn't a precise method of getting unstuck but many people have found ways which work for them!

Here is a list of some of the various methods I have come up with that can help you find the way out:

  1. Work outside of your comfort zone
We all like to be able to work comfortably in our own setting. Whether or not it's by the lakeside or in your bed. However, working where you are most comfortable has its limitations which can cause blocks. Try working outside of where you feel comfortable to conjure fresh ideas or take new outside influences to give you back that spark.
  2. Talk to people who engage in what you do
Being able to talk to somebody by putting all your problems out can help resolve issues by getting a second opinion. If you are the only one looking for answers, you'll also be very limited because you can get stuck there too.
  3. Take baby steps
When you feel stuck with trying to accomplish the big steps in achieving your goals, you'll most likely run into a block due to an overload of high expectation towards yourself. So instead, try taking little steps geared to push your along gradually. This way, you have less expectations and you'll feel great for accomplishing each step which will hopefully get you out of the block.
  4. Make a change in your environment
Going back to working outside of your comfort zone, your environment effects the way you work. If you feel as if working outside of your comfort zone doesn't make a big difference, change it. Innovate the way it looks and feels so it can help make a positive impact. Like if you like to work in a messy environment, clean it up and see how having an organized work place can change your thoughts into positive, uplifting ones.
  5. Try new things
Change is inevitable. So why shouldn't you try new things to change your perspective? Try out new methods, thought processes, whatever you need to do, make the change!
I may not have listed a whole lot but these are methods that work for me when I get stuck. If you come up with different ones along the way, add them to the list! Anything which helps you overcome your block is a positive method and worth jotting down! Good luck!

Do You Know Where Your World Comes From?

This has been bugging me for quite some time now. I notice it all the time and it has been increasing gradually everyday. I hear it on the radio, see it on television, and watch it in everyday life between the interactions with the various people I encounter. What I am noticing is the ever growing comparison of people's lives and knowledge to negative influences of popular culture and mass media sources.

Our paradigms, or worldview, are shaped from the time we exit from the womb. Every experience, every interaction, every bit of everything influences our sense of self and our sense of the world. However, there is a critical point in our life where outside influences don't hit you "as much" as they would. This point, to some people, is when you reach a level of adulthood. So outside influences must get you when you're most vulnerable, as children.

I work at a high school where many ideologies are formed and burned into the consciousness of your everyday citizen. High school, mainly, structures you for what you will be as you grow into a law-abiding citizen. However, as I stroll the hallways performing my duties, I notice the conversations between today's youth and it completely astounds me what they do in their lives, how they portray themselves to the world, and how they treat people.

Like I said before, most of our morals, ethics, and identity come from our day to day influences. So where are your kids getting their influences from? Many things influence them; yet some, in my opinion, should not taken lightly such as the radio and television.

Radio and television are sources where pop culture is displayed. What pop culture teaches us that in order to fit in with the "crowd", you must look like this, act like this, behave like this, but mainly THINK like this. Pop culture wants you to think they way they want you to think. Why? Nobody will ever know the real answer to that, unless you're the driver of the pop culture train.

So take this into account with your life. Do you watch a lot of television? Do you listen to a lot of radio stations? But most importantly, do you get most of what you believe to be real from these sources? Really think about what you find to be "real" and see whether or not they compare to what you listen and hear. You might surprise yourself.

This I Believe

I wrote this as part of my English class senior year of high school. It was part of the This I Believe campaign, stated on their website, which was started by "an international organization to engage people in writing and sharing essays describing the core values that guide their daily lives." So the goal was to write down what we morals we believed ran our lives on a day to day basis. This was mine.

Living as a teenager in this hardcore and uptight world can amount to some serious issues. Every day I must make a decision which will influence my life for years to come; from deciding whether or not to have proper hygiene to setting up goals for my future lifestyle. It wasn't until a special day when I realized how much choices truly impacted my sense of self.

The special day came into fruition when I learned my parents were no longer married and I had a major choice to make. I had to put all the facts on a plate and tally out what would be best for me and my interests. When the day came, my decision was thoroughly thoughtful and true. I laid out all the pros and cons until the pros outweighed the cons. In turn, the decision I made led to the fantastic life in which I am currently living. Still, even to this very moment I never stop wondering what my life would be if I made the other choice. However, it helped me realize that everything I run into will be the same. Every decision I make will either grant me many rewards and benefits; or grant me suffering, regret and doubt.

In other words I believe that every decision, either if it's me or another person making it, should be executed with absolute confidence after careful planning. Witnessing the turmoil of my parent's separation opened my eyes to this brand new perspective. It granted me the understanding that whenever I make a choice, I must lay out the pros and cons and come up with a strong conclusion which will benefit me for years to come.

Sure, sometimes the choices I make will influence other people's lives and I won't notice until after; but I still understand the choice I made and I know that they will move on as should I. I am human and the decisions I make will not always be perfect. Nevertheless, I believe that the choices I have made benefited me incredibly over the years and I appreciate everything aspect of my individual being and what I gained from that special day because I believed in the confidence of my decision.

Aim for What is Right

Countless numbers of people have their own perspectives on where we came from. The largest group of people support the claim that we are the image of God. We as humans were made in his image. Others claim that we have revolutionized over millions of years through adaptation and natural selection. No matter the argument, humans are imperfect and there is nothing we can do to change that fact. Although, there are workarounds which us to our topic of discussion.

One workaround, which was stated by a close friend of mine, is striving to be "great" instead of aiming for "perfection." The word great has been tossed around by many of the most successful individuals in the world. Each and every one of them use the word great in many of their speeches because of what the word great actually means to them. To those people, great may be a booster word to jump start their day. Or it can be what inspires them to change an aspect of themselves to achieve a higher level of "greatness."

What is strongly suggested is that they did not instantly gain success because of reaching for a level of perfection. Instead, they focused on dividing their ultimate goal into sub-levels, like a ladder. Each rung is an individual goal which will help you push your way to the top where your ultimate goal is set.

Following such a method will not only place you in a great opportunity on each rung, but will boost your confidence, self-esteem, and give you the spark to meet your expectations. We aren't perfect, so try not to expect yourself to be. It is our imperfections which makes us perfect.

Be the Change You Wish to See

Everyday, I hear people speak about what they wish to see change in the world. Whether its about changing something in the local community, changing something about our country, or even changing something about the world. I notice that while they are spilling out what they wish to see change, they aren't taking part in making the change happen.

For example, one may be walking through a town of poverty where people are living on the streets, eating out of trashcans, and begging others for money. In their minds they wonder, "Why doesn't anybody help them out? Why can't we get these homeless off the streets?" Yet, they continue on their way with their lives, placing the homeless into their memory banks as they worry about some other thing. Instead, what this person could do, is take part in volunteering at a homeless shelter. Feeding the needy, donating old clothing, or even sparing some of their time to listen to homeless individual's stories.

Displaying a sign of affection towards them is the change that needed to occur. Taking the active role, the leadership role, and plunging head first into what you wish to see is how change happens. In order to understand the change you want to see, you must first experience that change.

Take Martin Luther King Jr. as an example. Let us look past all the marches and all the speeches he took part in and let us look at what his motivation might have been. He lived in a time of great oppression towards the colored community. He experienced turmoils most of us may never, and hopefully will never get to experience. So what he did, is he took the active role, and became the change he wanted to see in the world. The world was violent, so he acted on non-violent confrontation. The world wanted him silent, so he acted in his speeches and voiced his opinion. The world wanted him give up his dream, but instead, he acted upon his dream and led a movement so powerful it swayed a nation. What Mr. King did was become the change he wished to see. He felt what it felt to be that change and used his experience to lead others into feeling what he felt.

All in all, people follow those who take the leadership role. They wish to see others do what they think they cannot do. So you know what that means? Be their change! Be your change! Be what you want to see and what you want will develop and you will live a very wealthy life.Podcast

The Power of Your Decisions

The Power of Your Decisions

America was founded on the belief that everybody has a choice. Every individual has the ability to make a choice which will reflect itself onto their lives in either a positive or negative manner. However, those who make those choices sometimes fail to develop an entire picture before they make that decision. Some act upon the first spur of a positive thought without first contemplating on what the negative consequences might be. While on the other hand,  they over think every aspect of the decision and fail to engage in the opportunity because they could not decide on what they thought was best for them.

So in other words, follow a procedure that you can develop which will help your decisions in a clearly, fashionable way so it can make a positive impact on your life. Layout your decision on paper, on your computer, your phone, whatever you may use and map out every possibility. Think of all the negative repercussions and positive benefits and choose the one that's heavier. If there's too much negative, don't go for it. If there's a lot of positive, well you know what to do.

The Keys to Living a Healthy Life w/ a Bonus Method!

Living in the USA has its incredible benefits and opportunity. We are able to import and produce goods in great abundance.  However, our over abundance of artificial products are helping our reputation as the fattest country in the world. Our obesity rate equals to one-third of U.S. adults. We have more McDonalds and fast food joints than almost every other country as well. So what kind of solutions do we have to fight off this bad reputation?

Many doctors and health specialists are seeking into better diet programs and encouraging the people to watch what they eat and especially where food is coming from. Most big name companies which offer food products you see at your local food mart isn't always properly made. Some of them put various chemicals and other substances into the making of the foods.

So one way to eat better is buy your food from local farmers at farmers markets. The food they provide are  freshly grown and have less chemicals. Plus, its always a great deed to help out your fellow citizens who grow their own food and your food.

Another way which should be obvious is getting up and moving. Our bodies have its own mechanisms to burning fat, whether you're awake or asleep. Your body is constantly feeding itself and using what you have to keep itself going. To help the process, you need to implement constant movement in your lifestyle. Try to walk more to local places, ride your bike, or run around your house a couple times. Any bit of motion which does not involve sitting in a car can aid you into losing a couple of pounds.

What I notice most people don't do is drink the recommended amount of water everyday. Our bodies are almost made entirely of water so ingesting the recommended amount keeps your body functioning normally. The cells in your body is made of water and the dissolving property of water allows your cells to use the essentials during biological processes.

The last thing I would like to mention is something which most people have never heard of. It is considered the tree of life and it has proven to sustain life and provide you everything you need. It is called the Moringa Oleifera tree. It is a tropical plant grown in usually semiarid, tropical, and subtropical areas. But enough of where its grown, but rather, why would I bring something like this up?

The reason why is because of its INCREDIBLE health benefits which can supplement what you get from milk, bananas, carrots, and oranges! According to Moringa Benefits, the tree, its roots, and its leaves all grant us abundant nutritional value.

You can receive all the following from this tree in one serving:

  • 125% daily value of Calcium
  • 61% daily value of Magnesium
  • 41% daily value of Potassium

Never EVER Forget to say Goodbye

So we all know that they're certain things we do in order to hold steady relationships with people. We make sure to have a great first impression, to connect to their personality, and to communicate comfortably. However, what I've noticed when it comes down to keeping a great friend or connect is the way you say goodbye.

Saying goodbye isn't only a way of exiting a situation, but closing the deal. Imagine you're at your first job interview. You're nervous, palms sweaty, feet shaking, and you're completely focused on your first impression. Well, imagine you pass the first test and then you have to sell yourself to your (hopefully) future employer. You pass that test as well. Finally, you reach the end of the interview and it is time to seal the deal. The employer loves your resume, loves your skill, but specifically, loves you! However, you still need to say goodbye the right way in order for that love to continue into your job. Want to know why?

Goodbyes have always had a beautiful meaning between people throughout all of time. So what you're doing with your employer is fully closing off the conservation with a specific meaning that you want to be there, or don't want to be there, or any other third reason. A pleasant, warm goodbye will display your excitement into the workplace and bring acceptance into the mind of your employer. A distant goodbye with little words will indicate hesitance, nervousness, skepticism, things you don't want your employer to assume.

Now we're all guilty of not wanting to talk to people sometimes and you want to act distant so they'll leave you alone and that is acceptable. However, try not to be completely rude about it. Do it in a nice and pleasant manner so they aren't left with a million questions or wondering if you hate them or something of the sort.

In other words, always make sure to give a warm goodbye to everybody you meet. You want the people you interact with to know who you really are and let them know that you would like to have some kind of relationship with them. Practice your goodbyes in the mirror like you would go over lines for a play. Understand the situation and play your cards the right way. You might end up with a large reward!
